Neuropathy is a broad term used to describe several types of pain related to nerve damage. This type of pain is typically described as “hot, burning, tingling, pins and needles”. There are numerous causes including: diabetic neuropathy, sciatica or radiculopathy, peripheral neuropathy, autonomic neuropathy. Neuropathic pain can be described by abnormal sensations called dysesthesia and pain from normally non-painful stimuli called allodynia. Proper diagnosis is the key prior to initiating therapy, which can include medical management, various nerve blocks and spinal cord stimulation therapy.
