Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by diffuse body pain, fatigue, sleeping problems, memory troubles, mood disorder and often gastrointestinal dysfunction. Women are more likely to develop fibromyalgia and most studies show that there is typically a “triggering event.” This even can be anything from physical trauma, psychological trauma, surgery, infection or some other type of emotional stressor. Many patients with fibromyalgia symptoms also have a history of abuse earlier in life. There is no definitive cure, but proper physical exercise, relaxation, stress reduction and fibromyalgia support groups are some of the most promising treatment options.
